DIY Retrofit Support

TAKE EARTHQUAKE RESILIENCE INTO YOUR OWN HANDS

Helping you retrofit your own home is something we enjoy doing. It’s a great option for handy do-it-yourselfers to save money and learn something new and interesting. Today’s technology makes it easy to do remotely. We work together.

Welcome U.S. Neighbours!

Don’t be alarmed that we are not on the same side of the border! We were trained by US experts!

How We Work Together to Get Your Home Strengthened

1.  Determine what your house’s needs are.

Just seeing your home on Google street view tells me a lot about it. On top of that, I’ll ask you to send me a floor plan, photos and measurements as needed. With this, the amount of strengthening your home needs can be determined. It’s called the Base Shear and it is advises how many pounds of strength we should add on each side.  We can meet on Zoom to talk about it.

2. Create a retrofit plan you can follow

Detailed drawings with easy to understand illustrations and step-by-step instructions.  You can see examples of houses like your own.

3. Create a list of materials, supplies and tools you’ll need

Everything you need to prepare. If it’s easier for you, materials can be ordered on your behalf for pickup or even delivered. In most cases, you can get just what you need so you’re not stuck with lots of leftovers.

Depending where you live, there may be tool libraries where you can borrow power tools. Borrowing and renting are other options. What is most important is getting the right ones!

4. Help along the way

You are going to have questions, lots of them. No problem!  You can email, phone, text, facetime, zoom… anything I missed?
